About Us

The Charleston is located in the historic Williams Building in Downtown Fullerton. This three-story brick structure was designed and built in 1927 by Oliver S. Compton for the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Lodge #103—as noted by the cornerstone at the building’s northwest corner.

Originally, the building served as a meeting and event space for the Odd Fellows. Members reserved the second floor for their exclusive use, while the first floor was leased to local offices and retailers, and the third floor hosted other fraternal and patriotic organizations. One of the earliest tenants on the ground floor was the United States Post Office, and the original pressed tin ceiling from that time still remains. In later years, the space served as a food locker before becoming home to the Williams Company in the 1950s.

With nearly a century of public gathering and civic use, the Williams Building has played a quiet but meaningful role in shaping the cultural life of the city. Its true legacy lies not just in its architecture, but in the stories, meetings, and community connections that have unfolded within its walls.
In 2022, Larry and Summer Houser began renovating the second and third floors of the Williams Building, aiming to restore its role as a vibrant gathering place for the community. Their vision took a distinctive turn when they embraced the building’s 1920s roots, transforming it into a space that radiates the elegance and spirit of the Great Gatsby era. But their dream goes beyond architecture—it’s about breathing new life into Downtown Fullerton and creating a warm, inclusive hub for diverse events and meaningful connections.

Larry and Summer are deeply rooted in the local community. In 2011, they co-founded the Fullerton Cares Autism Foundation, embarking on a philanthropic journey to raise awareness and support initiatives for individuals with autism in Fullerton and North Orange County. Their commitment to community is both personal and powerful.

Together for 13 years and proud parents of two, the Housers also own Bourbon Street Bar and Grill, a beloved local spot they’ve operated for over 16 years. They’re especially grateful to Holly, John, and Kristy at Bourbon Street for helping bring their vision for this new space to life.
